Task Force Leatherneck

Task Force Leatherneck is comprised of two regimental combat teams and four separate battalions, approximately 10,700 personnel. It is headquartered by 2nd Marine Division (Forward), which is a multi-role, expeditionary ground combat force employed as the ground combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force (Fwd).

Second Marine Division assumed command of Task Force Leatherneck in March 2011, and is currently commanded by Brig. Gen. Lewis A. Craparotta.

Mission:

In partnership with Afghan National Security Forces and the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 2nd Marine Division (Fwd) conducts counterinsurgency operations to secure the Afghan people, defeat insurgent forces, and to enable Afghan National Security Forces assumption of security responsibilities within our area of operations to support the expansion of stability, development and legitimate governance.
